Biography for Dr. Woodie Stevens

In November 2006, Dr. Woodie J. Stevens began serving as director of Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International. Prior to his acceptance of this new position, he served as New Mexico district superintendent for over 12 years. Dr. Stevens was senior pastor of Colorado Springs First Church from 1987-1994 and served in other pastoral assignments that include churches in Mundelein, Illinois (1978-1987) and Vermillion, South Dakota (1976-1978).
 
Dr. Stevens received his Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude) from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 1973. He graduated with honors from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1976, earning his Master of Divinity degree, and was ordained in 1978. Dr. Stevens earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1982. He is a graduate of the School of Large Church Management, an extensive three-year management training program. In 1998, MidAmerica Nazarene University recognized Dr. Stevens as Alumnus of the Year.

Dr. StevensDr. Stevens served the denomination as general NYI president from 1985 to 1989. He has been a contributing editor to Bread magazine and authored an evangelistic appeal entitled How to Fill the Emptiness. For two months in 2005, Dr. Stevens was immersed in Spanish language study in Antigua, Guatemala. He has traveled extensively around the world, speaking in 32 different countries at camp meetings, NYI and SDMI conventions, and revivals.

Dr. Stevens was born in North Platte, Nebraska, and lived there until leaving for Olathe, Kansas, to attend MNU. While at MNU he met his wife, Cheryl (Hancock). Dr. and Mrs. Stevens have two married children, a son and a daughter, and four grandchildren.
