Session Summary

Basic Christian Beliefs

Session 1 - God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Our Creator God is much more than some impersonal force of the universe that we can harness with our mental powers. The experience of humanity, recorded both in Scripture and in Christian writings, has shown that God loves us and expresses compassion in personal ways that no mere creative force could do. This personal God gives us glimpses of himself through the lives of His people--in the Bible and in modern times, too. Download Resources

Session 2 - Scripture

What is the Bible? Is it an old, dusty collection of ancient wisdom and folklore? Is it a treasure trove of personal promises for each Christian? Can people understand the Bible? Is the Bible important for our daily lives?

Wise Bible scholars help us clear up these questions -- and more. Download Resources

Session 3 - Sin and Salvation

What exactly is it that happens when a person becomes a Christian? And why do we have so much jargon to describe it?

First, the Bible itself uses many different words and phrases to refer to the great change that takes place when a person becomes a Christian.

And second, because humans are so different, there are many ways we can meet Christ.  Download Resources

Session 4 - Sanctification

In the face of conventional wisdom, bumper stickers, and 1 John 1:8, why do Christians in Wesleyan denominations insist on teaching entire sanctification? Because the Bible teaches perfect love, a pure heart, and freedom from slavery to sin. The possibility of deliverance from all sin and of being renewed in the image of God are themes that permeate the Scriptures.  Download Resources

Session 5 - The Church

What is the Church? What is its purpose? Why do we need to be a part of the Church? In these days when many people prefer to be “spiritual” without being “religious,” why has the Church become more important than ever? Download Resources
