Is your church doing an adequate job of reaching the families of your community for Christ? Is your church a place where families with children come to visit and stay? Has your church discovered children need to be the number 1 priority of your church? If not, then it is time to change. During Children's Week, begin moving your church in a new direction, with a new emphasis and a new passion for reaching children and their families.

Disciples in Training is the Children’s Week 2008 theme. The primary goal is to help children GET READY TO BE DISCIPLES, GET SET TO BE DISCIPLES, and GO AS DISCIPLES. Children are NOT the Church of the future. They are the Church of TODAY. As children are training to become future Church leaders, they must be participating and learning to lead now.

Our Scripture basis is Psalm 78:4. “We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.” As adults, we want to pass on the faith to the next generation.

Children’s Week 2008 begins on Sunday, June 1, and concludes with Children’s Day, June 8. The Worldwide Weekend of Prayer for Children at Risk is Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8. For more details on the Worldwide Weekend of Prayer for Children at Risk, go to www.viva.org.

Children’s Week Goals:

1.    To help the Church recognize the need to invest time, energy, and resources into children.
2.    To remind the Church to share the gospel with boys and girls and disciple them.
3.    To provide ways for children to participate in church services, activities, and mission and service projects as they disciple others.
4.    To honor and show appreciation for those who disciple children.

Children’s Week is a time to show children they are valued and appreciated. Plan activities and special events to bring new children into the church and to encourage and disciple all children who come to the church.

During Children’s Week, provide activities and programs to build or strengthen relationships between adults and children. Help children know they are valued by the congregation.

If you have a child care, preschool, elementary school, or after-school program, invite all children and parents to participate in Children’s Week events. Plan a way to showcase these children. Include a time of appreciation for parents who bring their children to your church for weekday care and education.
