Here are some suggestions for summer events, even though some
ministries take a break. These suggestions are planned to include the entire
family. They may also be used as opportunities to invite neighbors-personal and
others of the church.
Progressive
Picnic
Perhaps you have participated in a Progressive Dinner. How
about a Progressive Picnic? Follow the same concept. Paper products make cleanup
easy. End the picnic at someone's home or in a park for games.
Scavenger Hunt Picnic
Divide the
group into teams. Following clues, each team finds their lunch. The clues may
lead to the entire lunch or to a series of packaged items. A time limit insures
everyone eats together.
Women's Ministries could plan a Family Game Day. Using the
activities from track and field games, it's easy to plan events for the whole
family or teams.
Begin with an obstacle course. Include such things as a
football sweep, jump rope, gunny sack hop, and a sprint. A tug-of-war is fun for
participants and observes.
Remember the games you played as a child or check the library
for pioneer games. The objective is to have fun, not necessarily to display
athletic abilities. Games requiring little athletic prowess encourage everyone
to participate.
