Census Apportionment Figures

The United States government has issued new apportionment numbers for the House of Representatives. Based on the 2010 census, the two states with the most representatives will be California with 53 and Texas with 36.

But the same formula can be applied to any population base: the number of adults, the number of Spanish speakers, or even the number of Nazarenes. If Nazarenes are used as the apportionment base, California would still have the most representatives (41), followed by Ohio (40), Florida (26), Indiana (26), and then Texas (23).

The chart below shows the number of Nazarene members in each state in the year 2010, according to figures just released by the General Secretary's office and compiled by the Research Center. The chart also shows the number of representatives each state would have if Nazarene membership were the criteria. For comparison, it also shows the number of congressional representatives based on the actual census figures.
