Jacob and Dorothee Morris

Serving the Refugee population in Germany

Jacob grew up in Alabama and Dorothee was borna and raised in Germany. They met while studying at Trevecca in Nashville, Tennessee and were married in 2009. After marrying, they remained in Nashville while Jacob continued his studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School. While studyng, Jacob served as pastor to collegiate and young adults at Nashville First Church of the Nazarene and as the associate pastor at Inglewood Church of the Nazarene. While in Nashville, Jacob and Dorothee were blessed with the births of two of their children; Elias (6) and Miriam (4). Hannah, the newest memeber of their family, was born in the Spring 2018.

In the Fall of 2015, they began to discern God’s call for their family to serve among the refugees fleeing to northern Europe. After raising funds to support thier work, the Morris family left for the mission field in early 2016. Since then, Jacob, Dorothee, Elias, and Miriam's work with the Church of the Nazarene has taken them across three different fields: Central Europe, Western Mediterranean, and Northern Europe. Serving as Specialized Assignment missionaries, the Morris family’s efforts have been focused on helping refugees along their journey. Beginning their work in Serbia, the Morris family moved to Greece where they sustained a presence in multiple refugee camps, organizing educational and recreational opportunities and providing pastoral care for the residents. Elias and Miriam filled a crucial role in the provision of care for many of the residents of the camps— their daily presence there to play with their friends was a great source of joy and warmth not only for Doro and Jacob, but for the refugees as well. After a year in Greece, when the situation there became more difficult for them to continue serving in the camps, the Morris family moved to Berlin to assist refugees who had completed their journey to northern Europe with integration and the building of a new future.

Since December 2017, the Morrises have been living in Berlin and are working alongside local Nazarene churches there to reach out to the refugee population, helping to build bridges between Nazarene churches and the German population and their new neighbors.

We hope that will you join their work by praying for them and supporting them financially.

Going Where the Church is Not Yet

Today there are over 4.3 billion people who live in areas where there is little to no gospel witness. 4.3 billion people who have not heard the message of the gospel, who have never heard the name of Jesus. We believe that everyone deserves to hear. God continues to call the Church of the Nazarene to spread the message of the gospel, to preach holiness, and to bring good news to the poor all over the world. The task is enormous; far too big for anyone to do alone, but together we can go where the church is not yet and see people, communities, and nations transformed. Reaching these people begins with one step, a step of obedience and faithfulness that says yes to God’s call. Take your first step and start your journey toward serving in missions today.
