Tomo and Ceny Hirahara are missionaries serving in Thailand, on the Southeast Asia Field of the Asia-Pacific Region since 1999. Tomo is from Japan and Ceny is from the Philippines. They began with Tomo serving as the field’s JESUS film coordinator and teaching in the Southeast Asia Nazarene Bible College (SEANBC). Ceny has served as the field’s Nazarene Compassionate Ministries coordinator.
From 2007 to the present they have been forming house churches in the tsunami hard-hit area of Southern Thailand, including ministry to people living with HIV. They are currently involved in organizing Bible Quizzing, which children participate in PhangNga province tsunami area.
Tomo & Ceny came to Thailand in 1989. They met and got married in Bangkok. Also, they got acquainted with two American families who were the first missionaries of the Church of the Nazarene in Thailand in 1989. From 1995 to 1999, they studied at Asia Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) and learned more about missions and missionaries. All these mission exposures and prayers are part of their response to God’s call to return to Thailand as missionaries in 1999.
The Hiraharas were ordained elders on the Japan District of the Church of the Nazarene. They both received M.Div from the APNTS and Doctor of ministry from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City.
It is their prayer to have more key contacts or “persons of peace” in villages, who will respond positively and receive Christ.
