Chile theological conference explores Scripture, culture

by | 26 Sep 2019

Chile Nazarene Bible Seminary held its annual theological conference in its headquarters in Santiago and also in Arica on the North District. The conference was held in two locations to make it available to churches across Chile’s districts.

The objectives of the conference included providing instructional training and ministerial updates for pastors, seminary professors, and other church members. There were approximately 89 people in attendance at the Arica location.

“Through this conference, we were able to reinforce the idea that as Christians we have a particular vision about culture,” said Patricio Huanca, education development coordinator at Chile Nazarene Bible Seminary.

The speaker for the academic conference was Magister Vinicius Couto, pastor in the Church of the Nazarene, professor at Brazil Nazarene Theological Seminary, and author of several books about Wesleyan-Arminian theology. The topics of his presentations were “Divine sovereignty and human responsibility in the context of the controversy of predestination between Arminius and Wesley” and “Contemporary ethical reflections drawn from Arminian theology.”

“Our ethical values as well as our worldview are founded in the Scriptures, and they provide a legitimate way to provide answers to the problems we have in today's society,” Huanca said. “These aspects are greatly needed as we live in the midst of a hedonist and individualist society.”
